Chinese

Ok... so today is like the third time people asked me if i am Japanese. Not that it is a bad thing, but rather i feel that Singaporean somehow will not have an identity of our own in foreign lands, as in when "ang mo" thinks of asian looking, it will be either Japanese, Korean and Chinese. Well... i am a Chinese, but not a PRC Chinese but a Singaporean Chinese. That when i thought is Singaporean Chinese an identity? Well identities such as Spanish, Korean or Germans reflect well on their origin, but a Chinese that is not from PRC but Singapore? I wonder if it is the same as a African American or something....
